Home Care Miracle: Turning Around Diabetic Crisis for a Lone Senior Citizen”
Mr.***, a 71-year-old male from Ampang, living alone, developed fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and reduced oral intake for a week. Our team of doctors and nurses sprang into action, responding immediately. We conducted a thorough examination, evaluated his condition, performed blood tests, and utilized a bedside home-scan. The patient was diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). He also reported memory issues, depression, and frequent falls in the restroom.
Our team treated him on-site with appropriate medications, including insulin, antibiotics, intravenous fluids, and nutritional supplements. With 24/7 care and proper monitoring, the patient recovered from DKA—all managed at home with the best medical team and appropriate tools. Caregivers were on rotation to assist until his family members could arrive.
In short, after we stepped in:
- We were able to evaluate and treat his acute condition, bringing him out of the danger zone.
- We optimized his medications for his chronic condition.
- Now, the patient is doing much better, able to carry out activities of daily living (ADL).
- His memory has improved, he sees a purpose in life, and, most importantly, he has not had a fall since our intervention.
Treating a patient with diabetic ketoacidosis at home is not easy, but our focused, patient-centric team made a significant difference in the life of this individual. His family, who came from abroad, were pleasantly surprised and deeply grateful for our team’s efforts in turning around their loved one’s condition.
